The Sokoto State Government has flagged off a sensitisation campaign on Measles-Rubella Vaccine, aimed at protecting children against the deadly diseases.
In a statement by Garba Mohammed, Director of press to the Deputy Governor, said the campaign, was launched at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Lodge, Sokoto, was attended by top government officials, traditional and religious leaders, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who was represented by his deputy, Engr Muhammad Idris Gobir,called on traditional, religious, health, and community leaders to support the exercise, emphasizing the importance of the vaccine in protecting children against measles and rubella.
According to the Governor, measles and rubella are highly contagious diseases that can cause deafness, blindness, heart defects, brain damage, and even death in children.
The Governor assured of his administration’s continued investment in immunisation programmes and enhancement of access to essential healthcare services.
In her remarks, the First Lady of Sokoto State, Dr. Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, appealed to wives of local government chairmen to extend the sensitisation programme to their respective areas, ensuring that all eligible children receive the vaccines.
“This is aimed at ensuring that all eligible children are vaccinated, thereby ensuring a healthy future for our leaders,” Dr. Aliyu said.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, expressed appreciation for the support received by the Ministry from the State Government, which has assisted in achieving success in many of its activities.
A highlight of the occasion was the signing of an agreement letter between the State Government and the North-West Zonal Coordinator, C-Wins.
The Measles-Rubella Vaccine provides safe and effective protection against the diseases, and the Sokoto State Government has assured of its commitment to ensuring that all eligible children are vaccinated.
The sensitisation campaign is expected to raise awareness about the importance of the vaccine and encourage parents to bring their children for vaccination.
