The Gombe State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says all is set for tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 29th September, 2026) rescheduled Governorship Primary election ordered by the Federal High Court in the state.
Speaking on the level of preparations for the primary election, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Abdulkadir Ahmad, told our correspondent that all preparations have been concluded for the conduct of the election in all the 114 electoral wards of the State.
He said the former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Hon Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, a former member of the House of Representatives and Hon Usman Aliyu Garry, a former member of the Gombe State House of Assembly are vying for the ticket.
He explained that the party has already mobilized its card carrying members to come out for elections tomorrow.
“We have already written to the three contestants participating in the elections, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, Ahmed Mailantarki and Usman Aliyu Garry and asked them to forward the names of their agents which they have all done that”, he stated.
The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe, presided over by Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed, had last week Thursday ordered INEC to conduct a fresh primary election after Mailantarki, Garry and Hamma Saleh had approached the Court praying that Isa Ali Pantami was not a member of the PDP and so was ineligible to be the flag bearer of the party for the 2027 general elections among other prayers.
They had alleged that Pantami’s emergence after the party announced him as its sole candidate on June 26th, 2026 was not in accordance with the law.
Pantami on the other hand was a Governorship aspirant under the APC but joined the PDP few days after loosing the APC Governorship ticket to Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, who was endorsed as its consensus candidate.
He subsequently secured the PDP ticket through a voice affirmation vote during the party’s Governorship primary that was held on 26th May, 2027.
Justice Amina however ruled that Pantami was a member of the PDP and ordered that a fresh primary election be conducted within one month in accordance with the PDP’s guidelines and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act to produce the party’s candidate.
Mailantarki told Journalists that he is ready to participate in the election and expressed happiness that the election is taking the proper channel now.
“We are going to contest with him (Pantami) and its a good development. We are calling on all our supporters to be calm and to take it in good fate and abide by outcome of the election”, Mailantarki stated.
Usman Aliyu Garry is also reported to be ready to participate in the rescheduled election but insists that Pantami should not be allowed to contest, allowing only him and Mailantarki.
He, along with Mailantarki are reported to have written the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling on them to prevent Pantami from participating in tomorrow’s primary election.
Meanwhile, Gombe State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has confirmed that the fresh primary elections to elect the Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP in Gombe State will hold on Tuesday as scheduled.
Confirming the development through a telephone conversation, the Public Relations Officer of INEC, Mohorret Bigun, said, “Yes, we received a letter to that effect from the National Headquarters, the primary elections will hold on Tuesday.”
