Governor Aliyu Inaugurates North West University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto

By Onuminya Innocent, Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has inaugurated the ultramodern North West University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto, a significant milestone for the institution founded by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

The hospital, the first of its kind in the North West geopolitical zone, was formally approved by the Federal Executive Council in May this year.

During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Aliyu expressed the state government’s commitment to partnering with North West University to enhance quality healthcare delivery across Sokoto State.

He emphasized that the new hospital would serve as a beacon of hope, reducing the community’s overdependence on Usman Danfodiyo, Sokoto, for health care admissions and minimizing medical tourism.

Governor Aliyu praised Senator Wamakko, acknowledging his monumental contributions that have paved the way for significant advancements in healthcare services.

“The legacy of these achievements will be cherished by generations to come,” he remarked.

Senator Wamakko, the founder and proprietor of the North West University, commended Governor Aliyu for his role as a silent achiever in various sectors.

He assured the attendees that the new hospital would cater to the needs of the average Nigerian, eliminating the necessity for patients to travel abroad for complex procedures.

The Senator also announced plans to admit medical students by the next academic calendar and the establishment of a postgraduate school at the university.

Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza, the Vice Chancellor of North West University, expressed gratitude to the Federal Executive Council for granting a full-scale license to the institution.

He commended Senator Wamakko for his tireless efforts in advancing the project.

The ceremony concluded with an inspection of various sections of the hospital, where Governor Aliyu and Senator Wamakko were accompanied by the CMAC of the Hospital, Dr. Lawal Bello.

The inauguration of the North West University Teaching Hospital marks a pivotal moment in the institution’s history and the healthcare landscape of Sokoto State and the North West region of Nigeria.
