By Our Reporter
The Nigerian Army has organised its annual West African Social Activities (WASA) in Katsina State to strengthen socio-cultural integration, civil–military relations, peace and mutual understanding in the state.

The colourful event, organised by the 17 Brigade, Katsina Saturday evening, brought together officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army, traditional rulers and representatives of sister security agencies in the state.

It featured cultural displays, music, dance and exhibitions of traditional dishes that reflected the rich cultural heritage of communities within and outside Katsina State to the admiration of guests.

Speaking at the event, the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brig-general M. I Ibrahim, said the WASA initiative remains a vital platform for fostering harmony between the military and host communities.

He explained that beyond its ceremonial outlook, WASA serves as a bridge that deepens social cohesion, socio-cultural activities, cooperation and respect between the Army and civilians.

Ibrahim, who gave the historical background of the annual WASA programme, said it underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to national unity and cultural preservation.

He said: “This year, we are gathered here today (Saturday) to celebrate 17th Brigade WASA 2025 here at the parade ground of Natsinta Cantonment, Kasina State.

“We are worthy to mention that the WASA is geared towards ensuring that socialisation in the Nigerian army is encouraged. In this regard, the army headquarters made resources available for the conduct of this social activity.”
