The Katsina State Police Command has commenced a statewide crackdown on vehicles with covered, defaced or missing number plates as part of renewed efforts to enhance public safety and curb criminal activities.
The operation, which began on Monday, follows a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for heightened vigilance and proactive policing across the country.
In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the exercise is being carried out under the leadership of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu.
It said vehicles without registration numbers, those displaying only one number plate, as well as those using defaced or covered plates, will be impounded during the enforcement exercise.
The statement explained that the initiative is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations and discouraging crimes often perpetrated using vehicles with concealed identities.
As part of the operation, the statement said the Commissioner of Police has approved the deployment of additional personnel and equipment to strengthen patrols, stop-and-search operations and surveillance across the state.
The statement advised motorists to ensure their vehicles meet all legal requirements to avoid inconvenience, while police officers involved in the exercise have been directed to conduct themselves in a courteous, civil and professional manner”, the statement added.
It reiterated the command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property and called on members of the public to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel during the ongoing operation.
