Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the appointment of new members to the Board of the Benue Television Corporation as part of efforts to strengthen broadcasting services in the state.
The approval was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev.
According to the statement, Rev. Dr. Patrick Alumunku was appointed as Chairman of the board. Alumunku, who hails from Ushongo Local Government Area, is a seasoned media professional with a doctorate degree in Mass Communication.
He previously worked with Vatican Radio for 12 years and served for 21 years as Director of Communications at the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Catholic Television of Nigeria.
Dr. Thaddeus Hanmakyugh from Kwande Local Government Area was named Secretary of the board. Hanmakyugh holds a doctorate degree in Film Production and Media Arts from the University of Abuja and previously served at the National Film Institute Jos where he retired from service.
Other members of the board include Mrs. Jennifer Ejembi from Otukpo Local Government Area, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Television Authority Ibadan; Dr. Barnabas Gbam from Logo Local Government Area, former Rector of the NTA Television College Jos; and Engr. Sunday Iji from Oju Local Government Area, former Director of Engineering Services at Radio Benue.
Governor Alia urged the newly appointed board members to deploy their wealth of experience towards improving the quality of broadcasting services in the state while promoting Benue’s cultural heritage.
The statement added that the appointments take immediate effect.
