Emir of Gombe to Chair Committee on Preservation of State’s Museums, Monuments

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reconstituted the State’s committee earlier constituted to Preserve the State’s Museums and Monuments.

In the new arrangement, the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III is to Chair the Committee which is mandated to drive the heritage conservation of the State.

The Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, issued the statement today and said it is a renewed effort by the Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration to safeguard and promote the State’s historical and cultural heritage.

Misilli said, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, conveyed the Governor’s approval and also announced that the Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture, Mr. Moses Kyari Bolda, will serve as Deputy Chairman. The Head of the State’s Civil Service, Professor Muazu Shehu, will serve as Secretary.

Other members are the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); the Director-General of Gombe Media Corporation; Elder statesman Alhaji Yaya Hammari (Wazirin Yeriman Gombe); Mr. Yakubu Sarma, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties; Dr. Usman Isa Ya’u, historian; and Alhaji Abdulfatah Aliyu (Dan Amar Kaltungo).

Misilli also quoted the SSG saying, “the composition of the committee reflects Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s recognition of the importance of preserving the historical records, monuments and cultural assets that embody the identity and collective memory of the people of Gombe State, ensuring that important landmarks are not lost to time, but are properly preserved and passed on to future generations”.

The appointments take immediate effect.
