The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has intensified as the state executive committee unequivocally rejected the purported return of Bello Isiyaku as chairman.
Instead, the committee reaffirmed Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk as the authentic leader of the party in the state.
Addressing journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Sokoto, the party’s State Secretary, Yusuf Abdulkadir Alkali, clarified that Isiyaku was suspended prior to the 2023 general elections due to internal disputes surrounding his governorship ambition under the ADC platform.
Alkali emphasized that the party’s national leadership, led by Ralph Nwosu, officially ratified Faruk’s chairmanship during its national convention in Zaria in September 2022.
“This validation renders any claim by Isiyaku null and void. At our last meeting, attended by 25 exco members, 18 voted to reaffirm Hon. Umar Muhammad Faruk as chairman,” Alkali stated.
He described what he termed attempt to smuggle Bello Isiyaku back into the party’s leadership as “unacceptable and will not stand.”
This development further deepens the leadership crisis within the ADC in Sokoto State, with implications for the party’s future direction and cohesion.
