The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has described his first four years in office as highly challenging due to inadequate resources.
Sule stated this during an audience with a delegation led by the APC guber candidate Senator Aliyu Wadada on a thank-you visit following his emergence as governorship candidate.
Reflecting on his administration since assuming office in 2019, the governor said limited financial resources posed serious challenges during his first tenure.
“My prayer is that he comes in and does more than I have done. When I came in in 2019, my first four years were very challenging due to a lack of resources. By the grace of God, he will have eight years of resources, so he should be able to do more,” Sule added.
He, however, expressed optimism that the state’s incoming administration would have greater opportunities to deliver more dividends of democracy.
The governor said he was confident that Wadada would emerge victorious in the forthcoming governorship election, describing him as the “next governor” of Nasarawa State.
“Today, we are here once more to celebrate our candidate for the governorship election, Senator Aliyu Wadada, whom I have always said, Insh’Allah, is the next governor,” Sule said.
He urged party supporters and political associates to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid hostility toward political opponents.
He said those contesting against the ruling party should not be regarded as enemies because they also have genuine interest in the development of the state.
“All those contesting against us are not our enemies; they also believe in Nasarawa State and want to contribute. As we approach them, let us do so with caution, not hatred, but with love,” he added.
Sule further said he would not interfere in the affairs of Wadada’s prospective administration, particularly in the area of appointments, stressing that the senator should be allowed to choose his own team.
“It is not my responsibility to appoint people for him; he knows the people he wants and should be able to do that on his own without my interference,” he stated.
Sule, however, noted that he would not hesitate to offer guidance whenever necessary, describing himself as an elder brother and committed stakeholder in the affairs of the state.
“However, I will interfere if he is not doing the right thing, not as his predecessor, but as his elder brother and a proud citizen of Nasarawa State,” he said.
