Kebbi Govt Slams Critics Over Campaign Promises

•Highlightes Governor Idris’s achievements in two years

The Kebbi State government on Tuesday dismissed a scrambling online tract from a self‑styled “Concerned Citizens of Kebbi State” as a “false, misleading and hollow” attack on Governor Nasir Idris.

In a press release signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the government said the faceless write‑up was “deliberately concocted to undermine the remarkable achievements and dividends of democracy delivered by Governor Idris within two years.

The statement stressed that Governor Idris, who proclaimed himself as the “only Teacher‑Governor in Nigeria,” has already fulfilled most of his campaign pledges.

It highlighted a cascade of projects that have reshaped the state’s landscape: over a thousand new classrooms have been built and another 585 refurbished, while four “mega‑schools” – one in each emirate – are under construction.

The statement added that the govenor has recruited 2,000 graduate teachers, supplied 30,000 pieces of modern classroom furniture, and doubled the school‑feeding budget from N150 million to N300 million.

In addition, the statement said, 717 post‑basic literacy centres have been established to integrate Almajiri children into formal education, a N75,000 minimum wage has been instituted for all workers, and teachers now enjoy an extended retirement age of 65 and a longer service tenure of 40 years.

On the electricity front, the statement noted that while power distribution remains the responsibility of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) in the state, Governor Idris “out of his own volition approved the monthly payment of N150 million to KEDCO” to bolster supply for households and businesses across the state.

Security, the statement added, has dramatically improved after years of banditry that forced communities in Kebbi South to flee their farms.

“With the governor’s backing, security agencies have gallantly crushed most of these criminals, aided by the procurement of more than 80 patrol vehicles, over 100 motorcycles and enhanced allowances for personnel”, it said.

The result, according to the statement, is the safe return of displaced families to their ancestral lands and a noticeable rise in annual agricultural yields.

Economically, Kebbi has embarked on a series of international and local engagements that have attracted investors, culminating in multiple memoranda of understanding with foreign and domestic firms in agriculture, mining, health and education – moves the government says lay a solid foundation for long‑term growth.

The statement accused the authors of exposing “desperation and pettiness” while trying to promote an opposition gubernatorial candidate.

It asserted that the people of Kebbi “know the difference between the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and no amount of propaganda can distort the truth.”

However, the statement has sparked a fresh wave of commentary on social media, with some residents echoing the administration’s claims of rapid development while others call for independent verification of the figures.

But as the debate continues, the Kebbi State government says it remains focused on delivering “dividends of democracy” to its citizens.
