Kebbi Govt Dismisses Viral Palliative Distribution Video as “Staged Drama”

By Onuminya Innocent

Kebbi State government has denied allegations of inadequate palliative distribution meant for the Ramadan fast, labelling it a “stage-managed drama” by opposition groups.

In a statement by Abdullahi Zuru special adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Communication and Strategy says a viral video showed a psychiatric patient claiming to have received one mudu rice and another of maize as his share from the Dandi local government Education Authority’s allocation.

Zuru further explained that the lunatic claimed he is a staff member but was suspended for rejecting palliatives.

He noted that investigations found the man was manipulated by desperate politicians to discredit Governor Nasir Idris’ efforts.

The government states that as at the time of the incident, the Dandi local government’s allocation hadn’t reached the local government headquarters and the procured grains didn’t include maize, only rice and millet.

The government accuses opposition of orchestrating similar attempts to discredit Governor Idris, citing previous incidents, including a staged armed attack in Birnin Kebbi, exaggerated banditry claims in Tadurga village, and using addicted youths and prostitutes to discredit the government’s socio-economic efforts on social media.

He maintained that the government expresses confidence in Governor Idris’ commitment to peaceful coexistence and socio-economic development, saying no amount of blackmail can change the people’s mindset about his capacity and likely return in 2027.
