Hajarat Danyaro: A True Representative of the People

By Tukura Mathew

Leaders who treat people with fairness are instruments of nation building. Nigeria’s first generation of leaders from Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna of Sokoto), Herbert Macaulay, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Michael Okpara, Mallam Aminu Kano, Chief Joseph Tarka, Chief Anthony Enahoro, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Mrs Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, Hajiya Gambo Sawaba, all of blessed memories and host of others were fair leaders in their great vision and contributions to nation building.

Unfortunately, such purposeful leadership of Nigeria leaders is fast fading away with no reasonable replacement. Late Professor Chinua Achebe got it right when he titled his small book “ Leadership: The Trouble with Nigeria.”

Selfish struggle for power and not for public service, primitive accumulation of wealth and still remain insatiable is the order of the day. Their collective trade mark is leadership without responsibility.

But we have a God of mercy who from generation to generation provide people with good leaders. These newbreed of leaders don’t get into positions to enjoy on behalf of majority of Nigerians but share in pains what people are passing through.

Dr. Hajarat Ibrahim Danyaro, member representing Nasarawa Central Constituency in the NSHA (Nasarawa State House of Assembly), is one of the spirited leaders. She recently distributed no fewer than 700 bags of rice and 300 wrappers to the less privileged members of her constituency.

The compassion was in the spirit of Ramadan period in Nasarawa LGA of Nasarawa State.
Dr. Hajarat, the only female lawmaker in the State Assembly, said the distribution of the food items and clothing materials among others was to better the lot of her constituents during and after the fasting period.
Tagged “Ramadan and Sallah Palliatives,” Dr. Hajarat said the gesture was part of her continuous commitment to better the lives of people
