Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has praised Binos Dauda Yaroe and eight other senators for their decision to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a courageous step in defence of Nigeria’s democracy.
Atiku made the remark following the senators’ alignment with the party on Thursday, noting that their action demonstrated commitment to democratic values rather than personal or political gain.
According to him, the decision was particularly significant at a time when many politicians are reportedly being pressured to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I commend Senator Binos Yaroe and the eight distinguished senators who boldly aligned with the ADC, not for personal gain, but in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy,” Atiku said.
The former vice president stressed that democracy thrives only when there is a credible and vibrant opposition capable of holding the government accountable.
“Democracy without credible opposition is democracy in name only. Their presence strengthens our collective voice for accountability, good governance, and the future Nigerians deserve,” he added.
Atiku further stated that the senators’ stance sends a strong message about the importance of courage and conviction in leadership.
“When leaders choose principle over pressure, the nation wins. Together, we will build a stronger, more just, and more prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
The development has sparked reactions across political circles, with analysts noting that the move could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of future political contests.
