65.4 Per cent of Katsina Children Live in Multidimensional Poverty—Radda 

The Katsina state Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has said 65.4 per cent of children in the state between zero to 17 months live in multidimensional poverty.

The governor spoke at two-day capacity building workshop organized for local government chairmen with the themed “Reducing child Poverty through Social Protection and using Data for transformative evidence based Governance.”

According to Triumph report, the workshop was organized by Katsina state Bereau of Statistic in Collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Radda further said 1.46 children under five years are facing multiple deprivation across nutrition, health, education, sanitation and housing.

According to him, 61 percent live in monetary poverty, 51.3 percent are stunted, 43 percent immunized while 33.3 percent are out of school.

Radda said the figures highlighted the urgent need for coordinated data driven action to reduce child poverty and improve human development outcome.

He urged local government chairmen to leverage their proximity to grassroot communities in identifying Vulnerable household and ensure that intervention yield measurable progress.

He said to reduce poverty in the state,his administration in partnership with federal government and development partners implement programme such as Conditional Cash transfer, School feeding Programme, Skills for women and Youth and Community empowerment Scheme.

Radda stressed the need to consolidating these gains by strengthening Social Protection system at local level by building livelihood and supporting families to transition from dependence to productivity.

Ealier,State Statistician General, Professor Saifulllahi lbrahim said the workshop marks an important steps in using Data to address child Poverty.

He said Katsina has made sighficant progress in collecting and analysing Data.Ibrahim explained that with evidence based policies government can design intervention that effectively reach the most vulnerable children.
