Sokoto Govt to Recruit 3,000 Youths

By Onuminya Innocent, Sokoto

In a bold move to tackle unemployment and youth restiveness, the Sokoto State Government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 youths into the state civil service.

This development is expected to bring relief to thousands of unemployed youths across the state.

The state’s Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, made the announcement during the inauguration of a committee set up to oversee the recruitment process.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at reducing the high rate of unemployment and youths’ restiveness, which often leads young people into social vices.

He said the recruitment exercise, which will cut across all the 23 local government areas of the state, aims to prioritize unemployed graduates with NCE, HND, and Degree certificates.

The Governor directed the committee to focus on areas where the state is experiencing manpower shortages, ensuring that only eligible graduates are considered.

Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of fairness, justice, and diligence in the recruitment process, urging the committee members to live above board.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to making Sokoto youths more productive and contributing meaningfully to the state’s development.

The Governor noted that joblessness has played a significant role in the growing trend of “informants’ syndrome,” where people aid criminal activities for small amounts of money.

He emphasized the need to engage youths in productive activities, citing various skills acquisition programmes and poverty reduction initiatives implemented by his administration.

Some of the skills acquisition programmes mentioned by the Governor include training in trades such as vulcanizing, plumbing, electrical work, knitting, sewing, pomade and perfume making, and make-up.

The Governor also noted that the state government has provided working tools and start-up capital to thousands of youths who have benefited from these programs.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Jelani Kalgo, commended Governor Aliyu for the initiative and assured him that the committee would work diligently to meet the expectations of the people of Sokoto State.

The recruitment exercise is expected to commence soon, with the committee working to ensure a transparent and fair process.

This development is seen as a significant step towards addressing unemployment and youth restiveness in Sokoto State.

As the state government moves to implement this initiative, thousands of unemployed youths in Sokoto State are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to apply for these positions.

With the state government’s commitment to transparency and fairness, hopes are high that this recruitment exercise will bring relief to many families and contribute to the development of the state.
