The Katsina State Executive Council has approved the release of over N1 billion as counterpart funding to access more than N10 billion TETFUND intervention for establishing a teaching hospital at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.
The State Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu Funtua, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Wednesday at the Government House, Katsina.
The funding, according to a statement by Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, aims to facilitate the full commencement of the MBBS programme at the institution.
“The establishment of the teaching hospital has been the prerequisite for the medicine course at the University”, he added.
Similarly, the Commissioner announced that the State Executive Council has approved the contract review for the abandoned ophthalmology center project at General Amadi Rimi Orthopedic Hospital, Katsina.
“The contract sum has been revised from N407 million to over N500 million, following recommendations from the committee of experts who conducted an assessment and evaluation of the project,” he added.
