A cleric, Pastor Umaru Danladi John, has urged journalists to uphold the principles of truthfulness, honesty, and accuracy in their work, emphasizing its impact on societal development.
He made the call during a thanksgiving service to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at Deeper Life Bible Church, Sokoto.
Pastor John congratulated SWAN members on their Diamond Jubilee celebration and prayed for a successful and hitch-free event.
The cleric stressed that journalists play a vital role in shaping society and should remain upright, objective, and sincere in their reportage.
“No meaningful development can take place without adequate and truthful information,” Pastor John emphasized.
He urged SWAN members to continue to discharge their duties with integrity, fairness, and professionalism.
The SWAN@60 Diamond Jubilee Celebration will take place from October 29 to 31, 2025, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, featuring a symposium, award night, and gala event.
The event promises to be a memorable one, bringing together sports journalists, stakeholders, and dignitaries to celebrate six decades of sports journalism excellence.
The celebration is expected to feature prominent speakers, including the President of SWAN, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, who will highlight the association’s achievements and contributions to Nigerian sports.
The event will also honor veteran sports journalists and recognize outstanding contributions to the profession.
Pastor John’s prayer for a hitch-free celebration reflects the excitement and anticipation surrounding SWAN@60.
As the association marks this significant milestone, members are expected to reflect on their past achievements and look forward to continued growth and success in the future
