Bature’s Camp Hits Back at Sokoto PDP, Vows to Attend Convention

By Onuminya Innocent, Sokoto

A Sokoto-based group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is standing firm on its decision to participate in the ongoing national elective convention in Abuja, despite the Sokoto State chapter’s attempts to distance itself from the event.

The group, advocating for the re-election of former National Organising Secretary Hon. Umar Bature, has described as “false, misleading, and a misrepresentation of facts” a statement by Sokoto State PDP Publicity Secretary Hassan Sanyinnawal, which purportedly dissociated the state chapter from the convention.

In the press statement, Dr. Abubakar Danmafara, Chairman of the organisation, maintained that the position expressed by the state publicity secretary does not reflect the views of the majority of PDP members in Sokoto State.

“We wish to categorically state that Sokoto State remains an integral part of the PDP and cannot be excluded from such a crucial national exercise,” Dr. Danmafara said.

He added that hundreds of party faithful from Sokoto State are already in Abuja to participate in the convention, stressing their unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of the party.

“The attempt to distance the state from the convention is not only unfortunate but also misleading,” Dr. Danmafara stated.

The group revealed that they are fully mobilised and prepared to take part in the electoral process, particularly in support of Umar Bature’s re-election bid.

“The presence of our members in Abuja is a clear demonstration of our resolve to remain active stakeholders in the affairs of the PDP,” Dr. Danmafara said.

He emphasized that participation in the convention is both necessary and legitimate, urging all members to disregard any contrary directives aimed at discouraging involvement.

The group reaffirmed its loyalty to the PDP, calling on party leaders at all levels to prioritize unity, dialogue, and inclusiveness in resolving internal disagreements.

“We believe that the success of the PDP depends on the collective efforts of its members across all states. Sokoto State cannot afford to be left behind in shaping the future of the party,” Dr. Danmafara stated.

The group urged delegates and stakeholders to remain focused, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of the party throughout the convention process.
