Bandits terrorizing communities in Katsina State have attacked officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) along Dutsinma-Kurfi highway.
The bandits who attacked the officers of the NSCDC while on duty, were however successfully repelled by a team of reinforced security operatives after a fierce gun duel.
A resident of Dutsinma, Muhammadu Ibrahim who confirmed the incident to Daily Mirror24, said it occurred on Sunday.
“The bandits attacked the NSCDC officers on Sunday at their checkpoint along the Dutsinma-Kurfi road, but they were successfully repelled by police officers”, he added.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu while confirming the incident, said police operatives have neutralised one of the bandits.
Aliyu, in a statement, said the bandits attacked the NSCDC officers with sophisticated weapons while on duty but they were repelled by the police operatives.
He said: “On February 23rd, 2025, at about 0057 hrs, a distress call was received at the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits armed with dangerous weapons attacked officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on duty along the Dutsinma-Kurfi highway.
“Upon receipt of the report, operatives promptly responded to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gun duel, successfully foiling the attack as some of the suspected assailants escaped the scene with various degrees of gunshot injuries.
“During the course of scanning the scene, the body of a neutralised suspected armed bandit was recovered from the scene. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as the investigation proceeds.”
He, however, said the Katsina State Police Command remains committed to protection of lives and properties of the citizens.
