The 8 Division Nigerian Army has launched its 2025 Inter-Brigade competition, aimed at enhancing sportsmanship and efficiency among soldiers.
The five-day event, which began at the Giginya Cantonment parade ground in Sokoto State, brings together non-commissioned officers from various units to compete in areas such as physical fitness, firing skills, and battle readiness.
The competition, which is open to corporals and below, features events such as drill, combat swimming, map reading, combat run, and obstacle crossing. Four formations are participating in the competition, including 8 Division Garrison, 1 Brigade, 58 Signal Brigade, and 48 Engineer Brigade.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, declared the competition open, emphasizing the importance of fair play and urging umpires to ensure a level playing field for all participants.
The competition aims to improve junior leadership, organizational ability, and initiatives among non-commissioned officers, as well as enhance physical fitness, firing skills, and battle readiness. The event also seeks to promote esprit-de-corps, inter-unit relationships, and teamwork among the troops.
The GOC was represented by Commander 78 Supply and Transport Brigade, Brigadier, during the inauguration ceremony. The competition is expected to boost the morale and competitiveness of soldiers in the division, ultimately enhancing their operational effectiveness.
In his welcome remarks, the Commander of 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Abdul Malik Jibia, explained that the competition aims to promote esprit de corps among troops and build relationships between formations and units. The competition features various events, including drill, combat swimming, map reading, combat run, and obstacle crossing.
Brigadier General Jibia urged competitors and judges to abide by the stipulated regulations to ensure a smooth and hitch-free five-day exercise. The event kicked off with an opening ceremony, oath-taking, parade, and other presentations.
The competition is designed to enhance junior leadership, organizational ability, and battle readiness among non-commissioned officers in the division. The event is expected to foster teamwork, camaraderie, and healthy competition among the participating formations.
