Two corps members of the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II posted to Sokoto State have received Sultanate and State Government Meritorious Awards.
Each of the best behaved male and female corps members in Sokoto state receive a set of Plasma TV with N100,000 cash from Sultanate council.
Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, the Sokoto State Coordinator of the NYSC made this known on Thursday in Sokoto..
He explained that the award was designed to encourage corps members to stay and serve diligently in the rural areas.
Rewarding the awardees for their conduct during their service year in the state, the palace said the award is to enable other corps members still serving to be dedicated in service to the nation.
Also, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, Usman Yakubu Yaro, said the Sultan’s award for the “Best Behaved Male and Female Corps Members’’ was geared at encouraging corps members not to over-concentrate in the urban areas, adding that services of corps members are more needed by the rural dwellers.
Yaro expressed hope that corps members from the state will receive Presidential awards.
He announced that the NYSC has partnered with some agencies to train corps members on business skills, empowering them to be productive during and after their service year.
He urged the outgoing corps members to maximize the skills they have acquired to become self-reliant, warning that those who erred during their service year would face penalties saying NYSC is a scheme of reward and punishment.
The coordinator also enjoined the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme, advising them to be security-conscious at all times and avoid night journeys.
